A great place to start if you are thinking about getting back on the bike is the Active Travel Hub based at the Transport Interchange. They can give your bike a free MOT to make sure it's in good running order. They also have secure bike storage, e-bike and non-electric bike loan scheme as well as having a bike donation scheme. Where to cycle

    • Parks in Barnsley
      Parks are great spaces to ride your bike safely. Find out where your nearest park or play area is.
    • Sustrans
      A UK-wide network of signed paths and routes for walking, cycling, wheeling and exploring outdoors. Take a look at the National Cycling Network planner for cycling routes.
    • The Trans Pennine Trail
      The Trans Pennine Trail is a national coast to coast route for recreation and transport – for walkers, cyclists and (in parts) horse riders and includes loads of routes for getting around Barnsley.
    • Cycle Penistone
      Cycle Penistone is based alongside the Trans Pennine Trail at Penistone and is an excellent place for bike servicing, hire (including Inclusion Bikes) and brand new & recycle bike purchasing.

    • Barnsley Active Travel Hub
      The Active Travel Hub loan out both regular pedal bikes and electric bikes for free to the people of Barnsley for between one and three months.
    • Charlotte's Tandems
      Charlotte's Tandems lend tandems and tag-alongs to people with disabilities or additional needs, who are unable to ride a bike safely on their own.
    • Cycle Penistone
      Based alongside the Trans Pennine Trail at Penistone. Excellent place for servicing, bike hire, brand new and recycle bikes.

Barnsley Road Club

Barnsley Road Club was founded in 1924, to promote cycling in the Barnsley area of South Yorkshire. The club covers most aspects of cycle sport, with members regularly participating in time-trialling, road racing and reliability rides. Find out more about Barnsley Road Club.

British Cycling

British Cycling in partnership with HSBC UK and offers information for road, dirt and track biking. They also offer paid memberships to give cyclists benefits such as exclusive rates on bike insurance, 10% off cycling purchases in-store at Halford's, 10 pounds off at Chain Reaction Cycles and much more benefits.
